Students have a multitude of opportunities, individually or collectively, to explore the world through art history, museum studies, and fine art studio practices.

Offield Travel Fellowship

The annual Offield Travel Fellowship, established by a Puget Sound alumna, provides a substantial stipend to two to four students to support a trip to an international destination to experience visual art. Recipients traveled to Mexico City, Madrid, Florence, Tokyo and Kyoto, and more.

Study Abroad & Postgraduate Fellowships

Professor Elise Richman’s Rome Sketchbook class, spring 2018 and 2015: Connections 370, Rome Sketchbooks and Space Studies synthesized studio art practices and art historical methodologies to explore representations of landscape and the social and aesthetic implications of select public spaces. The course culminated in a three-week study abroad experience centered in Rome, Italy. Students spent the final week in a shared studio at the University of Washington’s Rome Center. They visited the Venice Biennale, Pompeii, Naples, Tivoli Gardens, and Florence and multiple institutions and sites in Rome.

Westrey Page ‘12 - held the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals in 2012-1013, an exchange program between the US State Department and the German Bundestag. American fellows can study for one semester at a German university and then complete an internship in their respective fields. Westrey also held internships at the Grassi Museum für Angewandte Kunst (Grassi Museum of Applied Arts) and the Halle 14 (an artist residency center) in Leipzig.

Regional/national/international excursions

Professor Kriszta Kotsis and students enrolled in her course on Byzantine art visited the exhibition, Picturing the Bible: The Earliest Christian Art at the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas, in Fall 2007. They also viewed the Modern Art Museum collection and were able to experience Richard Serra’s Vortex.

Professors Linda Williams and Kriszta Kotsis led field trips for the art history senior seminar to Los Angeles in Spring 2019 and Fall 2014 to visit the Getty Villa, the Getty Museum, and the LA County Museum Art. In Fall 2015, they took the senior seminar to Portland to visit the Portland Art Museum.
