Collins Memorial Library belongs to two library consortia, Orbis and NAPCU. These consortia have established reciprocal borrowing agreements to allow all students and faculty to use the collections of the member libraries. In some cases these consortia offer cooperative-licensing agreements for databases, which give the Library greater influence in negotiating for lower prices and more favorable terms with database vendors.
Orbis is a library consortium comprised of 18 academic libraries in the Pacific Northwest. Participation in Orbis allows Puget Sound library patrons access to the Orbis union catalog: a collection of over 5 million books, sound recordings, films, videotapes, etc., as well as the collection of the Center for Research Libraries in Illinois. Orbis borrowing is a patron-initiated service for the speedy delivery of materials. Collins Library is a participant in several Orbis licenses for digital resources such as electronic journals, commercial databases, and reference tools.
NAPCU is a consortium of 29 private colleges and universities in the Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana, which provides free interlibrary loan between all member libraries and reciprocal borrowing agreement. The PSAIL (Puget Sound Academic Independent Libraries) libraries form a mini- consortium within NAPCU.to pursue grant opportunities for cooperative collection building.
Collins Memorial Library also participates in the Washington State database-licensing project, and remains open to other cooperative arrangements which might benefit our constituents.
