Let someone else do the driving, and never worry about finding parking again. Instead spend your time reading, socializing, or taking a catnap.
Riding the bus is an excellent commute option for students or faculty and staff members commuting from off campus. Puget Sound is served by five bus routes, including Pierce Transit’s most popular route, Route #1.
The first step is finding your route. Resources such as the Pierce Transit Trip Planner are quick and easy, and can give you a detailed trip itinerary. You can also download the smartphone application, One Bus Away.
Once you have determined your route, find the closest stop and make sure you’re catching the bus in the right direction. Have exact change ready, or your trusty ORCA card. Ask your driver for the stop closest to your destination. When you're a block away, pull the overhead bell cord. The driver will let you off at the next stop. You can even take your bike on the bus.
If you plan on riding the bus frequently, consider purchasing an ORCA card. ORCA is a reloadable, reuseable card that eliminates the need for using exact change. Your ORCA card works like cash or a pass, automatically tracking the value of different fares and transfers to you don't have to. Your ORCA card is accepted for fare payment on and transfers between Community Transit, Everett Transit, King County Metro, Kitsap Transit, Pierce Transit, Sound Transit (including the Sounder Commuter Rail), and Washington state ferries.
Call Pierce Transit Customer Service 253.581.8000 or ORCA customer service 888.988.6722 for help selecting the correct value to load for your bus/rail travel needs.
