On the University of Puget Sound campus, a number of events are hosted each year by groups such as the Sustainability Advisory Committee (SAC) and Environmental Campus Outreach Club (ECO) for the purpose of promoting sustainability and spreading knowledge to the campus community.
Use the university's Events Calendar to look for upcoming sustainability-related events on campus. Just change the category option below the calendar to Sustainability to see tagged events.
Got a sustainability-related campus event? Use the Submit an Event button on the calendar to pass the info along. Be sure you indicate Sustainability as one of the event categories.
The Sustainability Advisory Committee has initiated a variety of sustainability programs on campus, including offering grants for pilot projects and the Loggers Live Green marketing campaign. Sustainability Services aids with sustainability goals related to recycling and reduced-waste event planning. Outside of SAC, ECO, and Sustainability Services, other areas of campus are also taking steps to make Puget Sound more sustainable. See the links in the Related Pages section on the right for more information.
While SAC has long given grants for sustainability projects on campus, we have recently refocused these efforts and the evaluation criteria for the grant proposals to align more closely with our work on the STARS rating system. Pilot grants may now be applied for on a rolling cycle rather than by a specific deadline, although priority is given to proposals that are submitted by March 11.
During the summer of 2008, the Sustainability Advisory Committee (SAC) developed a branding program to identify sustainability efforts on campus. Loggers Live Green is the marketing campaign that identifies sustainability efforts in general.
Efforts related to transportation bear the slogan Loggers Go Green, waste reduction programs use the slogan Loggers Cut Waste, energy conservation efforts are labeled with Loggers Unplug, and water conservation messaging bears the slogan Loggers Save Water.
In addition to campus events advocating sustainability, many events are held on campus that have other purposes but are carried out in a sustainable way. Sustainability Services works with event planners on campus to coordinate recyclable materials and recycling bins, compostable foods and materials, and/or fewer items that need to be thrown away. LogJam and Lu'au are two reduced-waste events hosted on campus each year.
If you would like to work with Sustainability Services to make an event you're planning more sustainable, see the Forms section.
