Associate Vice President for Finance
The Associate Vice President for Finance works with senior leadership and staff to strategically and collaboratively enhance the university's financial strength through fiscal analysis, monitoring, planning and reporting. A primary purpose of the position is to serve the educational mission of the institution by helping to plan, direct, monitor and coordinate the financial and accounting activities of the university in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, federal/state regulations, university policies and guidelines, and sound business practices. The Associate Vice President for Finance will work strategically and collaboratively to enhance the university's financial strength through analysis, innovative ideas, cost-effective approaches, high quality budgeting and monitoring, accurate accounting and tax compliance, and useful reporting for decision-making. Reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Administration, the Associate Vice President for Finance will meet regularly as a member of the President's administrative LEAD team and the Finance and Administration leadership team, and have primary responsibility, in collaboration with the VP for Finance & Administration, for providing support to the Board of Trustees, in particular to the Finance and Facilities Committee and the Audit Committee.
A Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or finance. At least ten years of related professional experience that demonstrates progressive responsibility, with at least five years of applicable management level experience; applicable experience with a private higher education institution highly desired. Broad technological experience optimizing the use of complex automated systems, analytical tools, and reporting utilizing a minimal intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point as well as an advanced level of proficiency with complex databases and related query and reporting tools. Demonstrated proficiency with GAAP, tax, and regulatory research, analysis, interpretation, and implementation; some public accounting experience a plus. Must be a visible, strong leader, with a strong work ethic and the ability to lead in a fast-paced setting, prioritize work, advance multiple projects at once, and adjust plans with changing circumstances. Ability to think creatively, anticipate opportunities, create a shared vision, promote change, and implement new strategies in a complex environment with a diverse constituency. Collaborative nature and positive outlook with the ability to build teams and effective relationships across organizational lines, and to mentor and develop staff, while being firm and decisive, with the ability to take action while promoting an effective and respectful environment. Must be an effective communicator with strong presentation and writing skills and a forward-thinking, solutions-focused individual. Ability to be a team-oriented leader who can bring new energy and innovations to fruition, energetic, innovative and resourceful in overcoming barriers and ensuring solutions. Able to lead, energize, and influence a wide spectrum of people to achieve exceptional performance.

Decisions about starting salaries are made based on the extent and relatedness of the candidate's education and experience and on internal equity and market considerations.
