University of Puget Sound Retirement Savings Plan

This is a summary of the annual report for University of Puget Sound Retirement Savings Plan, (EIN 91-0564961, Plan No. 001), for period July 1, 2014, through June 30, 2015.  The annual report has been filed with the Employee Benefits Security Administration, U.S. Department of Labor, as required under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA).

Basic Financial Statement

Benefits under the plan are provided by a trust (benefits are provided in whole from trust funds).  Plan expenses were $12,481,001.  These expenses included $61,969 in administrative expenses and $12,419,032 in benefits paid to participants and beneficiaries.  A total of 2,364 persons were participants in or beneficiaries of the plan at the end of the plan year, although not all of these persons had yet earned the right to receive benefits.

The value of plan assets, after subtracting liabilities of the plan, was $245,081,568 as of June 30, 2015 compared to $239,584,854 as of July 1, 2014.  During the plan year the plan experienced an increase in its net assets of $5,496,714.  This increase includes unrealized appreciation or depreciation in the value of plan assets; that is, the difference between the value of the plan's assets at the end of the year and the value of the assets at the beginning of the year, or the cost of assets acquired during the year.  The plan had total income of $17,977,715, including employer contributions of $4,996,900, employee contributions of $2,407,800, others contributions of $530,028 and earnings from investments of $10,042,987.

The plan has a contract with TIAA-CREF which allocates funds toward individual policies.

University of Puget Sound Flexible Benefit Plan

This is a summary of the annual report of the University of Puget Sound Flexible Benefit Plan, EIN 91-0564961, Plan No. 507, for period January 1, 2014, through December 31, 2014.  The annual report has been filed with the Employee Benefits Security Administration, U.S. Department of Labor, as required under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA).

The University of Puget Sound has committed itself to pay medical and dental claims incurred under the terms of the plan.

Insurance Information

The plan has contracts with Premera Blue Cross and Unum Life Insurance Company of America to pay life, accidental death & dismemberment, medical and dental claims incurred under the terms of the plan. The total premiums paid for the plan year ending December 31, 2014, were $6,463,152.

This is a summary of the annual report of the Total Disability Insurance Plan, EIN 91-0564961, Plan No. 504, for period January 1, 2014, through December 31, 2014.  The annual report has been filed with the Employee Benefits Security Administration, U.S. Department of Labor, as required under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA).

Insurance Information

The plan has a contract with Unum Life Insurance Company of America to pay temporary disability, long-term disability and employee assistance claims incurred under the terms of the plan. The total premiums paid for the plan year ending December 31, 2014 were $186,530.
