While our primary goal at Sustainability Services is to provide the campus with an effective, efficient, and waste-reducing recycling program, we also help the campus to improve resource usage and divert items from the waste stream that are not "recyclable" in the traditional sense.
Reduced-waste events such as LogJam and Lu'au take place on campus every year. These events provide food and entertainment to campus community members while working hard to cut down on or eliminate material that goes in the trash and landfills. They achieve both of these goals by providing reusable, recyclable and/or compostable items rather than ones that need to be thrown away. Sustainability Services is glad to help individuals, groups, and departments organize and host reduced-waste events. Please contact us at least 3 weeks in advance if you would like our consultation, help staffing, or help coordinating a reduced-waste event.
Many items that you may want to dispose of can often be donated to local thrift stores or recycled for parts. If you are moving from one office to another, updating, or planning a large clean-out of materials, Sustainability Services may be able to help you divert some of your old items from the waste stream. If you have furniture, electronics, or other items that you want to dispose of, contact Sustainability Services to see if the item can be put to other uses and kept out of landfills.
Sustainability Services is more than happy to consult with campus community members to help them improve their overall sustainability. Outside of general consultation and guidance regarding sustainability, we can also help by providing waste and energy audits for offices, departments, and buildings. These audits can help us to better understand how recycling and usage habits can be altered to improve overall campus sustainability.
If you would like us to help with any of the services listed above, have questions or comments, or would like to request our help with other sustainability-related ventures, please contact us at campus extension x1560 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
