Robyn Burns

Robyn Burns has maintained a violin and fiddle studio since 2000.  Robyn teaches using a combination of approaches including theory, composition, Suzuki, fiddle, rhythmic training, singing, and sightreading. While old time fiddle music is her current passion, she teaches pieces from both traditional and classical sources. Parent involvement is essential, as it encourages the student in the lesson and at home. Lessons are happy experiences with the parent, student, and teacher involved in the unfolding process of learning.

Ms. Burn's teaching experience includes Program Coordinator for Sunnyside Suzuki Project, Board Member and Treasurer for the Portland Suzuki Project, and faculty member for the Wallowa Fiddle Tunes Workshop. Robyn was a private violin instructor for My Smilin' Violin in Portland, Oregon and for Pasadena Strings in Pasadena, California. In 2006, she taught violin and recorder for the Musical Mission to Nicaragua.

Ms. Burns earned her B.A. in Music from Linfield College. She studied Suzuki violin books 1-10 and viola books 1-3 with Martha Shackford. She studied fiddle with Stephen "Sammy" Lind of Foghorn String Band, old-time fiddle with Earl White, and Irish fiddle with Kevin Burke. She was a scholarship recipient for Festival of American Fiddle Tunes in 2010.
