Graphic Design
$52 per hour
Contact design@pugetsound.edu or 253.879.2984 for estimates.

Design for small projects, such as ads or posters, often can be completed in two hours or less.
Design for medium projects, such as event programs or small brochures, can range from four to 16 hours.
Design for large projects, such as annual reports or viewbooks, requires more than 16 hours to complete.

Please allow a minimum of six weeks' lead time for all publications projects. To begin a project, please complete and submit a creative brief.

Photography
The Office of Communications provides a photographer for the following events:

  • Academic/Classroom Photography (candids and impromptu photo shoots)
  • Art Shows (annual fall student show and spring senior art show)
  • Athletics (general competition shots of a variety of varsity teams)
  • Campus Life (candid, seasonal images of campus life and facilities)
  • Commencement Ceremony
  • Homecoming and Family Weekend (candids, football game, tailgate)
  • Lectures (Pierce, Regester, Swope)
  • Lu`au
  • Performing Groups (one dress rehearsal and one casual/classroom rehearsal of major vocal, instrumental, and theatrical performance groups)
  • Prelude, Passages, and Perspectives (Orientation)
  • Scholarship/Fellowship Winner Portraits (Fulbright, Watson, Rotary Ambassadorial, etc.)
  • Staff Recognition Luncheon (general images of event and award winners; portraits not included)
  • Summer Reunion Weekend (candids)

Additional events may be photographed at the discretion of the Office of Communications.

Requests for specific shots at these events should be made directly to the university photographer at universityphotographer@pugetsound.edu or 253.879.3765. Photo requests are billed at the photographer's hourly rate. Every effort will be made to accommodate your request.

Scheduling a Photo Shoot
Special photographic requests or separately scheduled photo shoots may be commissioned. Contact the university photographer at universityphotographer@pugetsound.edu or 253.879.3765.

Photographer's Rate: $50 per hour
Travel and Mileage: Off-campus assignments are subject to travel time to and from the photo shoot location. Travel time is included in the total time billed for the photo shoot. Mileage reimbursement is billed at the university standard rate per mile.
Scheduling Notice: Request your photo shoot as early as possible. Include your budget code to reserve the date and time. You will receive confirmation of your reservation from the university photographer. A minimum of 15 business days is requested for all commissioned photo shoots.

Special equipment needs will be considered and charged (if applicable) on an individual basis.

The Office of Communications retains the right to use images from commissioned photo shoots in online and/or printed materials in promotion of the college.

Freelance Photography
If the Office of Communications is unable to accommodate your photograhy request, or you would like to work with an outside photographer, please contact the design director at design@pugetsound.edu or 253.879.2984.

Ordering Images
High-quality campus photography is available for reviewing and comping purposes online through CommImages, the Office of Communications' Web-based image library. CommImages houses more than 2,000 photos used by the office in various print and online materials in promotion of the college. We invite members of the campus community to use these images for their own university-related publications for a small maintenance fee. Register for free and gain access to CommImages at http://commimages.pugetsound.edu.

Digital Image Download Fee: $5 per image (comp images are free)
Photo Shoot CD and/or Contact Sheets: $25 (up to 24 images per sheet)

Images from commissioned photo shoots will be made avaialble in permission-protected folders on CommImages. The commissioning office, department, or group will be given download permissions to the folder, and image downloads from the photo shoot will be free of charge.

Photo Prints
Photo-quality prints are available upon request and take approximately seven to 10 business days to process. Prices vary depending on print size and quantity. To order prints contact the university photographer directly at universityphotographer@pugetsound.edu or 253.879.3765.

Please note that we are unable to release a print or digital file to anyone but the subject of the photo without the subject's permission or consent.

University Portraits
Portraits, or headshots, are taken in the Puget Sound photo studio, located on the second floor of Warner Gym. Office and departments that wish to have staff or faculty portraits taken may schedule time to do so with the university photographer. Portraits are $15 per person and will be kept on file in the Office of Communications. If you would like a digital file of your portrait, you may request one. The photographer will select the best photograph and send you the file via e-mail.

Group portraits may be booked as commissioned photo shoots.

Passport Photos
The university photographer is available to take passport photos for students, faculty, and staff. Photos are taken in the Puget Sound photo studio, located on the second floor of Warner Gym. $15 per session, plus tax

Photography Research Fee
If you are looking for specific images and are unable to find them on CommImages, you may request that the university photographer search the catalog of images on DVD, housed in the Office of Communications. Research time is billed at the standard rate of $50 per hour.

A Sound Past
Maintained by Collins Memorial Library, this is a growing archive of historical university images, High resolution image files are available upon request. Contact Collins Memorial Library for more information at archives@pugetsound.edu.

The university's archives house thousands of historical images and records from Puget Sound's past. Contact the archives at archives@pugetsound.edu.

Web Support
The Web manager, working with the Office of Communications, Technology Services, and others on campus, prvides CMS (Content Management System) training, website development strategy, and institutional social media oversight, guidance, and support.

Publications and Printing

Creative Brief

Printed Material
The Office of Communications bids projects to appropriate vendors and oversees all aspects of the printing process.

Posters

Campus Distribution: 90 11" x 17" color posters are $1 (no bleed) or $1.25 (full bleed) each to print and $10 total to distribute. On-campus distribution to all residence halls and academic buildings is handled by ASUPS Public Relations.

Off-campus Distribution: 115 11" x 17" color posters are $1 (no bleed) or $1.25 (full bleed) each to print and $1 each to distribute to area coffee houses, bookstores, libraries, etc. through Inform Puget Sound for off-campus distribution. Posters take about a week to be distributed and must be ready for pickup at least three weeks before your event.

Public Events Posters: The Office of Public Events coordinates design and distribution of promotional posters for Puget Sound's main public events, including instrumental and vocal concerts, theater productions, and endowed lectureships.

Arches
The quarterly magazine features people and idea for alumni and friends of the college in January, April, July, and October. Back issues are available online, and requests for reprints of Arches features or special sections and story suggestions may be submitted to Associate Editor Cathy Tollefson ’83 at arches@pugetsound.edu or 253.879.2762.
