Puget Sound University pennant: This pennant is a souvenir from the first years of the school. The name of the university would change several times over the years before settling as the University of Puget Sound.

Bishop Charles E. Fowler
Bishop Charles H. Fowler revealed his dream of a Methodist university in the Puget Sound region at the Annual Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church.

1884
Bishop Charles H. Fowler, former president of Northwestern University, presides over the first Puget Sound Annual Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Conference decides to create a university that will be a "praise in all the land."

1887
Port Townsend unwilling to live up to terms of agreement for Methodist college. Committee of four ministers and three bishops created to find a new location.

1888
Puget Sound University incorporated in Tacoma and first board of trustees selected by the church.
