Information for New Faculty Members
At your earliest convenience:
- Return signed appointment letter and contract, W-4 Federal Income Tax Form, and New Faculty Information Form to the Dean's office in provided envelope
- Upon email receipt of Puget Sound account set-up from Technology Services, log into email.
- Enroll in the Flexible Benefits Plan as soon as possible and no later than the last day of the month in which your appointment begins; benefits eligibility typically begins July 1 for most faculty appointments or January 1 for mid-year appointments
- Review and follow the instructions on the Flexible Benefits Plan web page.
When you arrive on campus:
- Plan to visit Human Resources to complete additional employment/payroll forms and obtain a new faculty packet
- Form I-9 (Section I)
- Invitation to Self Identify
- Direct Deposit (bring a voided check or deposit slip)
- Pick up first paycheck (first payday is on or around July 15 for July appointments; on or around January 15 for January appointments)
- Get your Identification Card
- Get your Parking Permit in Security Services
- Take the Preventing Workplace Harrassment tutorial
- Enroll in the Everbridge Emergency Mass Notification System (respond to email invitation from Director of Security Services, Todd Badham)
During your first month:
- Submit your Moving Expense Reimbursement Form and receipts (if applicable) to the Academic Vice President's Office, Jones Hall, room 111
- Read Campus Policies
- Privacy & Appropriate Use of Resources Policy
- Take the FERPA Tutorial (Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act)
- View "Faculty/Staff Directory" and "Your Faculty/Staff Financial Account" in Cascade
- Sign up for Retirement Savings Benefits Plan (if interested)
- Arrange for a student-guided tour of campus

- Enroll in the Flexible Benefits Plan as soon as possible and no later than the last day of the month in which your appointment begins

During your first week:
- Bring completed forms to HR on your first day on campus
- Get your Identification Card
- Get your Parking Permit in Security Services
- Log in to your Puget Sound email account

- Learn about the university
During your first month:
- Attend New Staff Orientation
- Arrange for a student-guided tour of campus
- View "Faculty/Staff Directory" and "Your Faculty/Staff Financial Account" in Cascade
- Read Campus Policies
- Take the FERPA Tutorial (Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act)
- Sign up for Retirement Savings Benefits Program (if interested)
- Complete your first-month survey online when you receive the invitation from Human Resources/Institutional Research
